Good Practices

The guests who know the hotels of Roteiros are familiar with the so-called good sustainability practices they find in the hotels of the network. There are the responsible hotel management practices that contribute to increase the sustainability of the activity. Among the most known practice examples are: the use of solar boards for water heating, broad utilization of natural lighting, low-consumption light bulbs, and electric devices for greater efficiency in the consumption of electric power; selective collection, reduction and recycling of solid waste; the involvement of the hotels in initiatives and projects for preservation of the environmental, historical and cultural heritage of their regions.

Equally important are the practices directed towards the professional appreciation of labor in their touristic destinations. The hotels have, as preference, the hiring of local labor in the filling out of most of the professional positions in their establishments (kitchen, lobby, cleaning, management, maintenance, construction). In several destinations, there is shortage of qualified labor, which cause the members to convert into labor trainers in their locations.

For the dissemination of the good sustainability practices among the members, Roteiros develops a permanent program for monitoring of the practices in all the hotels. This program provides the recurrent visit of professionals who verify the adopted practices and guide for their continuous improvement, having as a base the whole collection of practices accumulated by the group of members. The continuity and broadening of the program activities are ensured through the strategy of partnerships of Roteiros with private companies that share their vision on hotel business. The team of professionals is composed by independent consultants from the areas of environmental engineering, agronomy, forest engineering, biology, geography and tourism.
